A Pacific Paradise bartender has admitted to being grossly drunk on a motorcycle after he was found laying on the roadway after a big night on tequila.
Police were called to a motorbike crash on the Sunshine Mwy, Maroochydore about 11.10pm on November 24 last year to find Karl Marcello Williams on the ground receiving medical treatment near a Kawasaki motorcycle.
Police prosecutor Mark Burrell said witnesses said they saw the 35-year-old man falling from his motorcycle onto the ground without an interaction from another vehicle.
He was taken to hospital with tests revealing he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.220 per cent.
Sergeant Burrell said Williams told police he was at a house party in Maroochydore earlier in the night where he drank tequila, and did not mean to drive. In fact he couldn’t remember driving his motorcycle at all that night.
He pleaded guilty in court last week to a single charge of driving under the influence of liquor.
Representing himself, the 35-year-old said despite his occupation as a bartender, he was not a heavy drinker. He said it was out of character for him.
The court heard the Pacific Paradise man had a drug-driving offence in his traffic history previously.
Williams was fined $850 and disqualified from driving for 10 months. A conviction was recorded.
