New charges have been levelled at a Tewantin man accused of causing a deadly crash on the Sunshine Coast before shooting a random motorist in the arm in a carjacking spree.
Bradley Donald Towle faced four fresh charges more than three months on from the devastating fatal collision on Easter Monday which caused the death of a Brisbane woman and led to a desperate manhunt by police after the 41-year-old fled the scene.
Police allege Towle caused a multi-vehicle crash with his red Porsche Macan in the southbound lanes of the Bruce Hwy at Palmview on April 21, which led to the 41-year-old driver losing control of his vehicle.
It’s alleged Towle crashed into the passenger side of a Nissan Micra, killing 22-year-old Upper Mount Gravatt woman Jocelyn Grace Mollee.
The driver of the Micra, a 22-year-old Strathpine man, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Police alleged Towle then approached a white SsangYong Rexton with a gun while the driver of the Rexton tried to help those involved in the crash.
It was claimed the Tewantin man shot the driver in the arm and left in his vehicle before it was ditched on Steve Irwin Way shortly afterwards.
The Rexton driver, a 62-year-old man, was taken to hospital and treated for his injuries.
Police claim Towle then carjacked a learner driver and her parents in a grey Mazda 3 while armed with the gun.
The driver and her parents fled and were not injured.
Wild footage released by police captured the moment officers found Towle at the intersection of Steve Irwin Way and Forestry Rd at Landsborough where they drew their weapons on him.
He was arrested and charged with two counts of armed robbery, two counts of possessing dangerous drugs, two counts of unlawful entry of vehicle for committing indictable offence, and one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, dangerous operation of a vehicle adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, going armed as to cause fear, unlawful possession of firearm used to commit indictable offence, possessing tainted property, authority required to possess explosives, driver fail to remain at incident, and driving suspended licence. He was remanded in custody where he remains with his matters returning to court on September 29. No pleas were entered.
This publication can now reveal Towle faces four new charges which police laid on him on May 21.
Court documents state the Sunshine Coast Tactical Crime Squad allege Towle was in possession of a large amount of meth in Palmwoods on April 22, the day following the alleged crash.
It’s further alleged he possessed marijuana, a pistol, and ammunition all at the same place on the same date.
Two further charges of driving under the influence and being in charge of a vehicle while under the influence were also before the court, which occurred before the alleged shooting and fatal car crash.
Court documents state the Tewantin man was in charge of a vehicle while under the influence of drugs along Cooroora Rise at Pomona on April 4.
It’s further alleged in charge sheets Towle drove under the influence of drugs along Shorehaven Dr at Noosaville on April 19.
Towle, who appeared in court from the Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre by video in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Thursday, said he would not contest the driving charges on April 4 and 19 if his blood tests were analysed.
Police prosecutor Allison Johnstone said the tests were completed which allegedly revealed a “concoction” of drugs in his system.
Sergeant Johnstone alleged one of the tests for his driving charges on April 19 uncovered meth, amphetamines, marijuana and a long list of prescription drugs in his blood.
He then revealed he may challenge the April 22 drug charges due to him being jointly accused with another person. Towle alleged in court the co-accused was the one “caught with all this stuff”.
The police prosecutor asked for Towle’s matters to be adjourned to meet up with his serious indictable charges on September 29.
This was granted by Ms Ellis. Towle was remanded in custody. No pleas were entered.
