A Bli Bli scaffolder has escaped actual jail time for a caravan park biff which resulted in a wild citizens’ arrest.

Adam Luke Dow was heavily intoxicated when he struck an unsuspecting caravan resident with a canned drink during a meltdown at the Cotton Tree Holiday Park on March 7.

Court documents before Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Tuesday stated police were called to the caravan park about 3pm on March 7 after reports Dow, 40, was throwing items around and attempting to fight others.

The documents stated a witness was trying to latch his caravan to his vehicle when he was approached by a drunk Dow who was swearing and trying to instigate a fight.

Police said the man did not want to fight the 40-year-old.

Dow briefly walked away but he returned with a canned drink in his hand and, without warning, allegedly struck the caravan resident in the side of the face.

The witness told police he struck Dow in the head twice to “gain control of the situation” before he took him to the ground.

Court documents stated the public assisted by holding the Bli Bli man down until police arrived.

Police said Dow continued to swear during his arrest before he was taken to the Maroochydore Watchhouse.

He was later asked to remove his pants by officers due to it being a hazard while he was in custody.

Court documents stated during this conversation Dow kicked the officer, who was standing behind the 40-year-old, in the knee which caused the policeman to lose some balance. He was not injured.

No assault complaint was made by the caravan resident however Dow was charged with public nuisance and assault police, which he pleaded guilty to in court on Tuesday.

Police prosecutor Stu Lydford said this wild incident occurred six weeks after Dow received another sentence in court.

Defence lawyer Mark Savic told the court Dow was grappling with the sudden death of his mother along with the separation from his wife.

Mr Savic said the Bli Bli man had an accomplished work history where he was actually a qualified chef, rigger and even a train driver.

His lawyer said Dow now worked in scaffolding.

The court heard the 40-year-old was also engaging with a psychologist to take control of his substance issues.

Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist sentenced Dow to three months’ jail, suspended immediately for 12 months.
