David Andrew Coleman was spotted by police in his heavily damaged vehicle, which was stopped in the middle of the Sunshine Mwy at Mountain Creek facing westbound about 11.30pm on April 24.

Police prosecutor Jeanette Grigoris told Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday officers believed the car had been in an accident and tried to speak to the 54-year-old.

He told police he was driving home and had “no idea” what he hit with his car.

Coleman was immediately suspended from driving and charged with driving under the influence of liquor.

The 54-year-old represented himself in court on Monday where he pleaded guilty.

Coleman, who worked as a trade assistant and builder’s labourer, said he was at an Anzac Day pre-gathering when he decided to leave due to “problems” at the home and tried to sleep in his car but could not due a health condition.

He said he did not really drink often.

Magistrate Anna Smith fined Coleman $1100 and disqualified from driving for seven months.

A traffic conviction was recorded.
