Police found Cassandra Madyson Barty’s vehicle at the bottom of a steep ditch on the evening of February 6 at Peregian Springs, with tests revealing she had a blood-alcohol content of 0.166 per cent.

Maroochydore Magistrates Court heard on Monday that police were called to the traffic crash about 7.45pm north of a roundabout at Emu Mountain Rd.

Police prosecutor Bec Lambert said officers arrived and spoke to the 24-year-old, and observed her car to be at the bottom of a “large ditch” on the side of the road.

Sergeant Lambert said Barty made admissions to crashing into a signpost before finding her way off of the side of the road.

“Oh dear, this is a bit of a problem … you’re a bit of a speedster with a number speeding fines,” magistrate Maxine Baldwin told Barty.

The 24-year-old represented herself in court and said she was at a friend’s house on the night however decided to drive home after things became “heated” to avoid a fight.

“You’ve also got a bit of a leadfoot so you need to watch that as well … that combined with your alcohol was probably why you ended up in the ditch,” Ms Baldwin said.
