A number of motorists were penalised in Rockhampton Magistrates court for driving offences.
Unsupervised learner driver Natalie Taia Lewis, 20, had a blood alcohol content reading of .204 after she crashed her unregistered and uninsured car into a hedge on a residential property at Craignish, near Maryborough, on February 2, 2023 about 12.20pm.
Police prosecutor Clancy Fox said Lewis caused $1980 damage to the hedge and her own vehicle before running from the scene after the crash.
He told the court police located her in nearby scrub, told her to stop but she kept walking and told them to ‘f--- off’.
Mr Fox said after Lewis was arrested, as she was walked to the police car, she kicked out at a police officer and hit his leg.
He said she was taken to the hospital where she refused to get out of the vehicle and screamed as police walked her inside.
Mr Fox said her registration had expired on June 30, 2022, which meant her vehicle was also uninsured.
Defence lawyer Samantha Legrady said Lewis had been involved with drugs in Hervey Bay and had moved to Gracemere to change her lifestyle.
She said the young woman now worked as a cleaner at a Rockhampton hotel.
Lewis pleaded guilty on May 11 in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to two counts of obstructing police, along with one count each of drink driving, driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, learner driver not supervised, number plates cancelled and public nuisance.
She was placed on probation for eight months, fined $400, ordered to pay $1980 compensation and disqualified from driving for 12 months. A traffic conviction was recorded.
Bonita Eunice Rebel, 41, had a BAC of .130 when she was busted supervising a learner driver on April 9, 2023, just after midnight on Knight Street, Park Avenue.
Rebel pleaded guilty on May 11 to one count of drink driving.
Mr Fox said Rebel told police she had consumed half a carton of Great Northern beer between 3pm and midnight.
There was a third person in the vehicle.
Defence lawyer Claire Brtevnik said her client, a mother of three, had been to a celebration and there was an argument with her daughter and her daughter’s partner.
Rebel was disqualified from driving for four months, fined $500 and a traffic conviction was recorded.
James John Alison received an email notification the same date he got busted driving along Vin E Jones Memorial Drive, Rosslyn, while his licence was State Penalties Enforcement Registry suspended on April 22, 2022.
He told the court on May 11 that he had moved address which was why he didn’t know he was behind on payments.
The supervisor at a tree lopping business said he would be off work for the next three to six months due to a knee injury.
Alison pleaded guilty to one count of driving while SPER suspended and was disqualified from driving for one month and fined $100 and a traffic conviction was recorded.
