A disagreement between a Rockhampton father and security officers outside a popular nightclub escalated into a physical altercation that saw the dad restrained on the ground after his son was denied entry to the venue.

Darryl Dale Ottway, 38, pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to one count of committing a public nuisance.

Police prosecutor Tiffany Moras said Ottway was involved in a dispute outside the entrance to The Goat on July 22 about 10.41pm after his son, who is not accused of any wrongdoing, was denied entry to the venue.

Ms Moras said Ottway then got into a physical altercation with a security guard and was restrained on the ground.

She said police attended the incident and arrested Ottway, whose “demeanour was still aggressive”.

Defence lawyer Samantha Legrady said the offence was out of character for her client, who worked as a plant operator.

Ottway was fined $500.

No criminal conviction was recorded.
