After opening on southside 14 years ago, a second Dan Murphy’s store has finally come to the other side of the river, with about 30 eager shoppers waiting for the doors to open at the newest Rockhampton store on Friday morning.

Dan Murphy’s Norman Gardens opened its doors to shoppers at 9am at the Glenmore Shopping Village.

Store manager Tegan Dekker said they were thrilled to have opened on Friday and had received a “resoundingly positive response” from the community.

“Alongside our coffee cart this morning for the early risers we also had tastings showcasing some of the very best from local suppliers and well known producers,” she said.

“We have Bundaberg’s own Kalki Moon as well as Burleigh Heads as well as craft delight Young Henry’s Classic Range available.

“We also have some great opening specials on hand for local customers.”

The new store currently employs 14 staff members, six casuals and the rest full time and part time staff.

Ms Dekker said she thinks the community will “really appreciate that the team has a customer-first approach in everything they do”.

“Whether it’s showcasing local suppliers or providing products that locals know and love,” she said.

“Our team are locals who live and work in the community so it’s great to be a part of the local tapestry.

“We have our lowest price guarantee that resonates well with customers and we can’t wait to serve each and every one of you.”

Area manager Darren Lowe said It’s been wonderful to have a store on the northside of Rockhampton.

“A lot of people are just happy we are open,” he said.

Frenchville resident Kylie Hylard shopped at the new store on Friday and bought alcohol and bags of ice to take on a camping trip this weekend.

She said it was good to have a Dan Murphy’s store in North Rockhampton.

“I don’t drive over southside,” she said.

“It’s too far.”

It was announced in March 2023 a Dan Murphy’s would be opening in the Glenmore Shopping Village.

At the time, it was scheduled to be opened by December 2023.

It is understood there were construction delays.

The new store is the first store on the northside, and the second store for Rockhampton.

The Allenstown Dan Murphy’s, the first in Rockhampton, opened at the current site in March 2010.
