Countdown to Dan Murphy's opening

ONE of Australia’s biggest liquor chains – Dan Murphy’s – is expected to open its doors in Rockhampton on March 18.

THE countdown has begun.

One of Australia’s biggest liquor chains – Dan Murphy’s – is expected to open its doors in Rockhampton on March 18, and manager Tim Harrison and his team will be working around the clock as of tomorrow.

Over the next two weeks, Mr Harrison and his team of 20 staff, including a fine-wine manager, will pack more than 4000 products on to the shelves of the 1100sq m premises.

“We will hit the ground running and I don’t expect to have much sleep over the next couple of weeks,” Mr Harrison said with a laugh.

Mr Harrison moved to Rockhampton from Hervey Bay with his wife and two children two weeks ago after being offered a promotion with the company.

The 33-year-old says Dan Murphy’s is an exciting new choice for Central Queenslanders.

“It gives people a much wider choice at a good price.”

Mr Harrison worked for the company in Hervey Bay for two years after moving from a retail position at Auto Barn.

“It’s (Dan Murphy’s) such a fun company to work for and I have always been looked after,” he said.

He said Dan Murphy’s in Rockhampton would be one of the biggest in the state.

Construction of the massive store near the Allenstown Hotel is complete, with the signs expected to go up this week.

The store will have hundreds of spirits and beers and thousands of wines, including famous cellar release wines imported from around the globe.

Dan Murphy’s originated in 1878 and there are now 26 stores in Queensland and more than 100 across the nation.

The closest store to Rockhampton is Dan Murphy’s in Mackay.
