The Strand Hotel’s new beer garden and main terrace has opened, marking the completion of the venue’s $2.2 million renovations under new management.
Now the popular pub will celebrate the extensive makeover with a ‘Welcome Weekend’ , from April 19 to 21.
The Yeppoon venue on Normanby St changed management in February 2023 to national company Australian Venue Co, who are behind the $2.2m renovations.
The Strand Hotel venue manager Nathan Marshall said they thought they would do something “a bit bigger” so they could “really initiate the spaces”.
“We’re proud to finally have our entire pub back open for our community and our Welcome Weekend is going to be a great way for us to show off these new spaces with a line-up of entertainment for locals and visitors to enjoy,” he said.
The new beach bar and terrace, as well new open-air street dining, reopened just before Christmas, with the refreshed beer garden and main terrace opening on Easter weekend.
The new large outdoor dining area features a marquee, while the main terrace includes an expansive timber deck that offers seaside views of the main beach.
Mr Marshall said the renovations started in October 2023 and had “refreshed pretty much the whole venue”.
“At the end of January we started on the rest of the venue,” he said.
“We have a refreshed sports bar with all new high quality TVs and the beer garden which is amazing.”
Mr Marshall said there were other areas of the venue they were going to look at renovating in the long-term “but nothing in stone yet”.
New equipment was also installed in the kitchen in November with the menu, offering Queensland pub classics and seafood.
There are also gourmet pizzas, burgers, steaks, parmigianas and tap beers, wine, cocktails, and non-alcoholic beverages.
Since reopening fully on Easter weekend, he said the renovations had been “really well received”.
“Our customers are loving the spaces, both local and tourists,” Mr Marshall said.
“It’s been really positive.
“We have put a bit of money into our kitchen as well and our food quality is super.”
On Friday, April 19 there will be a tradie club barbecue and live music, and on Saturday there will be a Strand Beach Party with free entry, live music and DJs from 1pm to late.
There will be a cash cube with prizes up for grabs from 2pm on Sunday, as well as a prawn peeling and eating competition, kids dance party from 1pm to 3pm and Live music from 4pm to 7pm.
“It is going to be a super-charged weekend,” Mr Marshall said.
“If you haven’t checked out The Strand in a long time I think the community would be very surprised.
“Very refreshed menu with new offerings, new spaces and we can’t wait to share it with everyone.”
