Dan Murphy’s to open in Glenmore Shopping Village, North Rockhampton

A Brisbane development company bought a site for $5.82 million in 2022 and is refurbishing it to make way for a liquor superstore. Check out the jobs on offer at the new outlet.

Since Dan Murphy’s opened on southside 13 years ago, northside shoppers have asked when it will be coming to their side of the river.

And it’s finally coming true.

Dan Murphy’s will be opening in Glenmore Shopping Village later this year, with plans to be open by Christmas.

Glenmore Shopping Village will have a new tenant soon.

Endeavour Group, who own Dan Murphy’s, confirmed the news to The Morning Bulletin and said they would be “bringing a compelling customer experience that is locally relevant to the area, with plans to open the store in December, prior to Christmas”.

“Customers will be able to discover from a range of more than 6000 products, including a big selection of premium wines, craft beer and craft spirits,” the spokesperson said.

The new store will provide 20 full-time and casual jobs.

“All stores across the Endeavour Group network are committed to being a valued member of their local community,” the spokesperson said.

“We’re passionate about local - we employ locals, work with local suppliers and curate store ranges to suit the tastes of locals, and that’s what we’ll be doing with Dan Murphy‘s Norman Gardens.”

Brisbane development company Augustine Property purchased the Glenmore Shopping Village in September 2022 for $5.82 million through Neale Crow of Knight Frank Rockhampton.

“We are currently refurbishing and remixing the shopping centre and are looking forward to welcoming Dan Murphy’s later this year,” Augustine Property director Lennon Lin told The Morning Bulletin.

“On completion, Glenmore Shopping Village will provide a refreshed and convenient liquor, food and service offer to the residents of North Rockhampton.”

The site has 15 tenancies across 1750 sqm and construction has been underway for the last few months, changing walls and the layout.

Various tenants have relocated, with the fish and chip shop moving to Dean Street in February, rebranding as Barnacles Fish Shaq, while Chez Alicia Hair Salon has relocated to 330 Agnes Street.

The property, at 301-303 Farm Street, had previously sold in 2013 for $2.975 million and in 2006 for $3.5 million and the first recorded sale in 1988 for $3 million,

Tenancies over the years have included Civic video store, TAB, UBet, Vinnies, Kumar’s Spice Corner, Foodworks, Miss India, a sexual health clinic, Pioneer bank, with Dominos, Noodle Paradise, a kebab shop and Lex’s Lounge beauticians still operating.

It is understood the Dan Murphy’s store would be located in the former Foodworks.

The nearby Glenmore Tavern is an Australian Leisure and Hospitality group pub, as is the Allenstown Hotel, also owned by the Endeavour Group.

The Allenstown Dan Murphy’s, the first in Rockhampton, opened at the current site in March 2010.

Developer Mr Lin has a history of developments in south-east Queensland under his other company, Summit Property Development, including a $80 million residential 12-storey, 204 unit development in Woolloongabba and developed the $65 million Hope Island Marketplace on the Gold Coast.
