ANOTHER shopping centre is set to open on the Gold Coast just in time for Christmas.
Hope Island Marketplace is the latest in a $600 million-plus retail development hamper that has been delivered to the Glitter Strip’s northern corridor in recent weeks.
The $65 million two-level retail hub boasting two major supermarkets — Aldi and Woolworths — is on schedule to fling open its doors in just over four weeks.
It follows the recent openings of the $470 million Westfield Coomera and $100 million Pimpama City shopping centres.
Hope Island Marketplace developer Lennon Lin’s Austin Property Development has confirmed an early December completion is on track.
The 10,000sq m shopping centre also will comprise a medical centre and pharmacy and 36 specialty retail spaces with fast-service restaurants.
LJ Hooker Commercial’s Ashley Moffat said the shopping precinct would become the new heart of Hope Island.
“We have a majority of the specialty retail spaces already under lease and being fitted out, and so many fresh and fast food outlets vying to be part of the Marketplace that there’s a truly positive vibe gaining momentum for this shopping centre,” he said.
Carl’s Jr is one of the fast food restaurants to open in the centre and the first of the American style chain burger bars to include a drive-through option.
Hope Island Marketplace is located on the major intersection of Broadwater Ave and Mervyn Drive.
Mr Moffatt said the 2.5ha site — purchased by Mr Lin for $14.3 million from receivers — had been a source of fascination for the local community as they have witnessed the retail hub take shape, after a number of other proposed developments fell through in recent years.
“This suburb is one of the nation’s most affluent, with strong population growth forecast over the next decade so it’s only fitting the new heart of the community will be a vibrant and diverse shopping centre where getting the family groceries or seeing the family doctor can be achieved in one visit,” he said.
Hope Island Marketplace has a focus on family health and wellbeing with its offering including a F45 gym, physiotherapy and pilates studio, Amcal chemist and Amtan Medical Centre.
CBRE’s Rudi Scutti added: “The developer’s vision for the site is coming together in the final stages and I know the Hope Island community is going to be thrilled with the result when the doors open in December.”
