Australian tennis champion and Australian Made ambassador Ash Barty has officially launched Australia Made Week at MJ Playgrounds in Coolum Beach.

An ambassador for Australian Made Week, Barty says she is an “extremely proud Australian” whose favourite Australian made product is her “Vegemite thongs”.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to travel the world and experience a lot of different cultures and it almost helped me understand that home is where I want to be, Australia is where I want to be,” she said.

Barty said the opportunity “to back Aussies, to support our local makers and growers completely made sense”.

“We jumped at it in an absolute heartbeat,” she said.

Barty said she believes it is important to buy Australian because “you know it’s of the best quality in the world”.

“I think for me it’s about being able to stick to an Australian value of backing your mates and that when you do buy an Australian product with the green and gold logo you are backing other Aussies and giving them an opportunity to boost the economy,” she said.

“When you buy Australian and are able to support an Australian business all Aussies win.”

Australian Made campaign chief executive Ben Lazzaro said he “can’t believe” they managed to secure Barty’s services for the launch.

“Our brand is about authenticity, reliability, quality, standards and if you want a genuine Australian you look no further than Ash,” he said.

“So we think the alignment was meant to be and luckily enough Ash thought the same and we are so grateful she is our ambassador this year.”
