REVEALED: Players to watch in MCA minor grades for 2024-25
With first grade cricket in Mackay enjoying a week off, let’s turn our attention to the players lighting it up at all levels of the game.

With the Mackay Cricket Association’s first grade competition taking a week off, it’s time to shine a spotlight on some of the minor grade cricketers who will be hoping to bring their ‘A’ game this weekend.
Second grade:
Jack Law (Brothers)
Is averaging an insane 100.5 with the bat so far in second grade, thanks to 145 in the first game of the season plus another 56 in the second.
Sanjay Patel (Souths)
Has been dismissed only once so far this season, with scores of 74 and 61* to his name and an average of 162.
Dean Zeller (Pioneer Valley)
The leading wicket-taker in the competition thus far, Zeller’s tidiness and damage potential have both been on full display thus far.
Robert Brett (Norths)
His extraordinary hat trick in round two catapulted him up the wicket-taking rankings, but he has had numerous quality performances with both bat and ball so far this season.
Third grade:
Mark Haebich (Walkerston)
Was very effective at the top of the order in round 1, putting together a run-a-ball 61 to help his side to victory.
Aaron Kirby (Magpies)
Played a starring role for the Magpies despite their defeat in round 1, notching up an unbeaten half century before picking up 3-16 with the ball.
Troy Head (Pioneer Valley)
Showcased his serviceability with the bat, but with the ball was where he really shone, picking up 4-11 to have the best figures of the comp in round 1.
Lachlan Newbery (Walkerston)
Was another strong performer with the ball, picking up two early and two late wickets to help lift his side to a win.
Fourth grade:
Ian Brown (Magpies)
Secured a five-wicket haul in the opening game of the season in an impressive display.
Cooper Gray-Knight (Walkerston)
The only other player in fourth grade to take more than two wickets, Gray-Knight picked up four scalps in a losing effort for Walkerston.
