Moranbah man charged with grievous bodily harm, assault, strangulation, stalking

Police have arrested a Central Queensland man over accusations of horror domestic violence that allegedly resulted in a woman suffering serious injuries.

He was charged with five counts of common assault as a domestic violence offence, two counts of strangulation as a domestic violence offence, and one count each of grievous bodily harm and unlawful stalking.

Police have arrested a Moranbah man on allegations of horror domestic violence offending resulting in a woman suffering serious injuries.

It is alleged the 47 year old stalked and seriously assaulted the woman in a series of incidents over the past year.

He was arrested on October 16 and charged with five counts of common assault as a domestic violence offence, two counts of strangulation as a domestic violence offence, and one count each of grievous bodily harm and unlawful stalking.

Detective Inspector Emma Novosel said Mackay Whitsunday district officers will continue to maintain a zero-tolerance policy when it came to high-harm offenders in the community.

“We are committed to doing everything within our power to ensure violent offences are investigated, and victims are protected,” Detective Inspector Novosel said.

“Our Domestic and Family Violence High Risk Team is dedicated to ensuring victims are supported and protected, and offenders are brought before the court.”

Detective Inspector Novosel said the Vulnerable Person Unit worked closely with investigators and officers across the district to ensure domestic violence offenders were “held to account and bought before the court at every opportunity”.

“If you see or hear acts of violence, we encourage you to come forward to police as soon as possible,” she said.

The 47-year-old man was remanded in custody and will reappear in Mackay Magistrates Court on December 5.
