Matthew Owen Kingi in Mackay Magistrates Court for extradition to NSW

A Mackay criminal labelled a “frequent flyer” by one magistrate has been extradited for alleged violent offences in another state.

Matthew Owen Kingi was wanted for arrest following allegedly violent offences in New South Wales.

A Mackay court alleged “frequent flyer” is accused of committing offences in NSW.

Matthew Owen Kingi appeared in Mackay Magistrates Court for extradition to NSW.

The court heard on October 12, 2024, Mr Kingi was arrested in Bowen on a warrant of apprehension issued by the Tweed Heads Magistrates Court.

Mackay-Whitsunday District Police Senior Sergeant Scott Ingram said Mr Kingi was initially located in relation to some “traffic related matters”.

Matthew Owen Kingi was extradited to New South Wales for alleged violent offending.

“Upon further inquiries it was found that he was wanted under a warrant inter state in relation to some matters relating to violence I believe,” Senior Sergeant Ingram said.

Magistrate Damien Dwyer asked Mr Kingi if he was Mr Kingi of Jubilee Circuit, Rosemeadow in NSW which Mr Kingi confirmed.

Mr Dwyer ordered Mr Kingi to return to the state of NSW and appear in the Magistrates court of Downing Street, Sydney on October 16 and was delivered into the custody of a Detective Senior Constable in the NSW police force.

Mr Dwyer said Mr Kingi was one of the Magistrates court’s “frequent flyers at one point” and when he heard the allegations against Mr Kingi in NSW, he said “at least he’s consistent”.

Mr Kingi was placed on a 6am flight to Sydney and said he would make no application for bail.
