Police have arrested a Moranbah man on accusations of horror domestic violence offending including that he allegedly attached her with hedge trimmers after an argument.
It is alleged the 47 year old stalked, and seriously assaulted the woman multiple times, in a series of incidents over the past year from November 2023 in the Moranbah region.
Moranbah officers arrested him on October 16 and charged with five counts of common assault as a domestic violence offence, two counts of strangulation as a domestic violence offence, and one count each of grievous bodily harm and unlawful stalking.
Police are alleging there were multiple incidents of violence committed against the woman, the most serious of which involved an assault with a hedge trimmer following an argument.
It is alleged she needed surgery as a result of the injuries she suffered.
Officers further allege the stalking involved the man inundating the woman with messages, intimidations and threats to stop her from engaging with police.
It is also alleged she endured two instances of choking.
Detective Inspector Emma Novosel praised all police involved in the matter and said Mackay Whitsunday district officers would continue to maintain a zero-tolerance policy when it came to high-harm offenders in the community.
“We are committed to doing everything within our power to ensure violent offences are investigated, and victims are protected,” Detective Inspector Novosel said.
“Our Domestic and Family Violence High Risk Team is dedicated to ensuring victims are supported and protected, and offenders are brought before the court.”
Detective Inspector Novosel said the Vulnerable Person Unit worked closely with investigators and officers across the district to ensure domestic violence offenders were “held to account and bought before the court at every opportunity”.
“If you see or hear acts of violence, we encourage you to come forward to police as soon as possible,” she said.
The 47-year-old man was remanded in custody and will reappear in Mackay Magistrates Court on December 5.
