Two men have been charged over an alleged violent clash in a North Queensland party town that left a young tourist with a possible broken jaw.

Police allege the victim had to stab his two attackers, who were holding him down, to escape the late night horror assault in the Whitsundays.

Officers were called about 12.35am on October 17 to reports of a fight between three men at the Hermitage Dr intersection with Mount Whitsunday Dr, which is near an accommodation hub about 500m away from the Airlie Beach party strip.

Police allege during the incident a 24-year-old tourist was been pinned down and seriously assaulted by two men.

It is alleged one of the men punched him in the face and held him down while the second man started kicking him.

It is further alleged while trying to free himself, the tourist stabbed one of the men to his calf and the other man to his hands with an “implement”.

It is alleged the two attackers, who are from the Brisbane region, knew each other but did not know the other man, who suffered a possible broken jaw, cuts and bruises.

All three men were taken to Proserpine Hospital for treatment.

Police have charged a 25-year-old man from Redcliffe and a 24-year-old man from Kippa Ring each with assault occasioning bodily harm.
