An accused car thief who police allege brazenly took a stolen vehicle on a daytime joyride has been returned to custody on remand after it was revealed in court he was on parole.
Netherdale man Clinton James Kissier is facing three charges stemming from an incident on October 15 after the 38 year old allegedly took the keys to another man’s vehicle from a car dealership in the Mackay city centre.
It is alleged the owner of the vehicle watched Mr Kissier drive off in his black Holden SS Commodore, which had been at the Pioneer Holden service centre on Gordon St.
Police further allege Mr Kissier took the vehicle on a joyride before abandoning it at the Aldi grocery store on Erie St in Andergrove.
He allegedly fled the scene but police arrested Mr Kissier soon after on Beaconsfield Rd.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman confirmed a 38-year-old Netherdale man was arrested over the alleged offending.
Mr Kissier faced Mackay Magistrates Court on Wednesday via video link from the watch house on one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of suspected stolen property and disqualified driving.
ATSILS solicitor Geoff Govey told the court Mr Kissier was on a return to prison warrant and asked for the matter to be adjourned for three weeks.
A return to prison warrant means Mr Kisser had been on parole. That has now been cancelled.
Mr Kissier’s case will be mentioned again in early November and he will appear via video link.
