REVEALED: Mackay Cricket Association round 3 team of the week

There were plenty more strong performances across the board in the third round of the MCA’s first grade, let’s take a look at the best of the best.

It was yet another solid weekend of action in round 3 of the Mackay Cricket Association, with plenty of players staking their claim to our weekly best 11.

Find out who made the cut:

1. Muhammad Wahab (Souths) - 57 (70)

Wahab proved to be a critical player for the Sharks at the top of the order, with his patient but by no means slow half-century anchoring a successful run chase.

2. Chris Day (Norths) - 45 (35)

It was a tough day out for Norths but their opener Day stood tall during a challenging run chase against Walkerston.

3. Adam Vanderlinde (Brothers) - 43 (61)

Brothers’ linchpin at the top of the order helped his side to a defensible total which was ultimately chased down.

4. Tim Cridland (Pioneer Valley) - 57 (51), 2-25 (5 overs)

Cridland played nearly a lone-hand in PV’s batting line-up, as the rest of the middle and lower order failed to fire in their defeat to Magpies. Also picked up a pair of key wickets.

5. Luke Jackson (Walkerston) - 69 (53)

Jackson came to the rescue when Scrubbies were in dire straits, lifting his side from 4.74 to 5-227 before he was eventually dismissed, in an innings which included four fours and a six.

6. Tom Vandenberg (Walkerston) - 78* (48)

The other half of the equation for Walkerston on their way to a monster total was Vandenberg, who came in with his side still in a precarious position.

7. Conor Bryant (Magpies) - 44* (60), 2-32 (6 overs), 3 catches

Bryant was a force in all three facets of the game, producing a knock of 44 not out which got his side over the line, while also picking up two wickets and taking a remarkable three catches to help his side to the victory.

8. Chris Mceldowney (Walkerston) - 13 (13), 2-26 (8 overs)

Not typically where you’d expect to find Mceldowney in a hypothetical line-up, however his bowling was the most valuable part of his performance on the weekend.

9. Yash Kapoor (Souths) - 3-21 (8 overs)

Kapoor was a critical component of Souths’ victory, being absurdly economical for a one-day match with a pair of maidens in the mix while he also picked up three wickets.

10. Charlie Sweeten (Souths) - 3-30 (5 overs)

Not the most economical performance, but Sweeten was effective in knocking over some key middle order figures from Brothers on the Sharks’ way to the win.

11. Isaac Borg (Magpies) - 2-20 (8 overs)

Another strong showing from the Magpies skipper as he was at his economical and damaging best.
