A formal indictment had been handed up to court accusing a Mackay man of bestiality.

Victor James Tetley is charged with bestiality, allegedly involving a dog on or about September 15, 2022 at Mackay.

Under the Queensland Criminal Code section 211, any person guilty of bestiality is liable to imprisonment for up to seven years.

The 35-year-old’s case was previously listed for committal mention in Mackay Magistrates Court on September 27, giving the Office of the Department of Public Prosecutions six months to formally indict him according to section 590 of the Criminal Code.

Crown prosecutor Shannon Sutherland presented the indictment to Mackay District Court just weeks before that deadline.

Fisher Dore clerk Nick Coughlan requested the matter be adjourned on behalf of lawyer Sean Gibbs, who is defending Mr Tetley, while they wait for medical material.

Mr Tetley’s matters were adjourned for a mention at 10am on February 19 and his bail was enlarged.

Two other people, Crystal May Hoare and Jay Wade Veenstra, are also awaiting formal indictment in Mackay higher courts for five bestiality charges.

Because of the serious nature of the charges, they must be handed up to the district court before they are dealt with.
