Matters against a Sarina man accused of multiple sex acts with two dogs over 12 months are back in court.
This comes as it can be revealed the charges against his female co-accused have been committed to Mackay District Court.
Crystal May Hoare, 37 and Jay Wade Veenstra, 28 are both charged with five counts of bestiality.
The couple were arrested in July 2023 and released on watch house bail.
Their matters were first mentioned in Sarina Magistrates Court in August and adjourned until October 30 to Mackay Magistrates Court.
Police will allege the sex acts involved two dogs and were recorded on October 18 in 2021 and on March 19, May 17, June 6 and October 25 in 2022 in the Sarina region.
Legal Aid Queensland solicitor Geoff Govey, who represented Mr Veenstra on Monday, said the 28 year old’s legal aid application had been refused and he had sought private representation.
The court heard he had an appointment with a solicitor in early November.
His matters were adjourned for committal mention on November 13 when the solicitor could inform the court if there will be any submissions in relation to the case.
Ms Hoare’s matters had also initially been listed for mention on October 30 but Mackay courthouse confirmed her charges had already been committed to the district court earlier that month.
Crown prosecutions now have six months to formally indict her on some or all of the charges in the higher court.
Under Queensland law, anyone convicted of bestiality is liable to be jailed up to seven years.
Because of the serious nature of the charges, they must be handed up to the district court before they are dealt with.
