A Mackay man has faced the magistrates court charged with bestialty over allegations he had sex with a dog.

A Mackay man is accused of having sex with a dog.

The 35 year old appeared in Mackay Magistrates Court on Tuesday over allegedly having carnal knowledge of a dog.

Victor James Tetley is charged with bestiality involving a dog on or about September 15, 2022 at Mackay.

It was his first time fronting court over the charge, represented by defence solicitor Sean Gibbs.

Under the Queensland Criminal Code section 211, any person guilty of bestiality is liable to imprisonment for up to seven years.

Because of the nature of the charge the matter must be dealt with in the district court.

Magistrate Damien Dwyer directed a full brief of evidence be provided to Mr Tetley and his legal representative by August 18.

Mr Dwyer further directed that committal documents be provided to police prosecutions by September 8.

Mr Tetley is on currently on bail.

His matters were adjourned to September 27 for committal mention and his bail enlarged until then.

His appearance on that date was excused.
