Ipswich’s domestic violence abusers in court during 2021 named and shamed
From vicious beatings, to countless strangulations and terrifying kidnappings, here’s a list of Ipswich’s domestic violence perpetrators.

On a weekly basis an alarming number of people pass through the Ipswich courthouse for domestic violence offences.
Across the nation, the pandemic lockdowns resulted in a spike of DV cases which inundated an already backlogged legal and corrections system – Ipswich was no different.
In 2020 courthouses across Queensland issued more than 38,000 DVOs, with woman more often than not being identified as the victims of the persistent and sometimes life threatening crime.
Below is a list of Ipswich offenders who were sentenced in 2021 for committing shocking acts of domestic violence:
MATTHEW WARREN BONHAM
At the hands of Matthew Warren Bonham, a young Ipswich mum endured a series of brutal and shocking attacks which all involved strangulation, kicks and punches to the head, and being thrown to the ground.
In November Bonham pleaded guilty to three charges of strangulation DV, seven charges of common assault DV, contravening a DV order, and drug charges.
The 22-year-old was sentenced to three and a half years imprisonment.
LUKE HENRY CARR
A woman who feared her ex-partner, Luke Henry Carr, was going to kill her, tried to jump from an upstairs window to escape after he had bound her.
The North Ipswich man told the woman he was going to put her in the boot of his car during the terrifying assault.
In September the 31-year-old pleaded guilty to multiple DV crimes including; choking and suffocation, deprivation of liberty, and contravening a domestic violence protection order.
Carr was sentenced to a 3 and a half years imprisonment with immediate release on parole after spending 18 months in custody.
RYAN DANIEL BURR
Ryan Daniel Burr was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment after pleading guilty to assaulting his partner in a violent and bloody assault.
While travelling through Ipswich on a bus Burr, 24, accused the woman of cheating and pushed her head into a window and punched her in the mouth and face.
Not long after the July 2020 attack the woman died of an unrelated heart attack which Burr claimed spurred a string of subsequent crimes.
KEIREN JOHN WILLIAM CONLON-BUTTERWIRTH
Booval man Keiren John William Conlon-Butterworth had been convicted of assaulting numerous girlfriends as well as his mother and was back before court in March.
During the 29-year-old’s latest deplorable crime he repeatedly kicked and punched a woman who wasn’t fighting back.
Conlon-Butterworth pleaded guilty to committing domestic violence offences of unlawful assault causing bodily harm, unlawful assault having previously been served with a domestic violence protection order, and previously being convicted of domestic violence offences.
He was sentenced to two years jail and granted parole.
CHRISTOPHER LEE OKELL
Lowood and Rosewood man Christopher Lee Okell, 46, has a long history of domestic violence and found himself in court again after attacking and threatening to kill a woman.
In July the 46-year-old pleaded guilty to a range of crimes including two assaults causing bodily harm, entering premises by break and stealing, drug possession.
During one terrifying attack, Okell punched a woman more than 30 times.
Okell was sentenced to 26 months imprisonment, although was immediately released on parole due to time already served.
BRADLEY JOHN HANNAH
Ipswich man Bradley John Hannah carried out a series of violent and disturbing crimes after his wife left him.
The 48-year-old slammed his ex-wife’s head into a car dashboard and threatening to kill her while driving to an unknown location, then showed up in her bedroom where she woke to him choking her.
In October Hannah pleaded guilty to 10 offences including two counts of choking DV, one of common assault DV, and was sentence of three years jail.
After spending 421 days in pre-sentence custody Hannah was immediately released on parole.
JACINTHE LEILANI GOURLEY
New Redbank Plains’ mum Jacinthe Leilani Gourley stabbed her boyfriend in a spiteful attack after he failed to help out around the house.
In August the 24-year-old pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding as part of a domestic violence offence.
Gourley sentenced to a 2 and a half year jail term, with immediate parole.
RYAN JOHN JACKSON
A woman was forced to jump out of a moving car to escape her ex, Ryan John Jackson, after he assaulted and threatened to kill her.
Jackson had stalked the woman after the relationship ended.
In November Jackson pleaded guilty to charges which included; assault occasioning bodily harm DV, unlawful stalking uses, threats of violence DV, and deprivation of liberty detain/confine DV.
Jackson was sentenced to two years imprisonment and released immediately on parole after spending 288 days in pre-sentence custody.
GENE ROBERT CHARLES BUCKLEY
Tradie and former Ipswich City Council worker Gene Robert Charles Buckley pleaded guilty one count of assault occasioning bodily harm and was sentenced to a 12 month jail with an immediate release.
The 36-year-old North Booval man choked his partner during an argument about food.
The court heard he was previously charged with choking, suffocating, and strangulation but those charges had been dismissed.
NICHOLAS KENNETH WATSON
Woodend Butcher Nicholas Kenneth Randall Watson beat a woman and stole her phone after having sex with her in a car.
The 41-year-old has a 10 page criminal history and pleaded guilty to a range of crimes in August which included; domestic violence assault causing bodily harm, common assault DV, attempting to injure a police dog, wilful damage, and stealing.
Watson was sentenced to two years jail.
RHYS ANDREW ARCHER
Rhys Andrew Archer went to his ex-girlfriend’s home armed with a knife and razor blade where he attacked her with a closed fist.
Archer pleaded guilty to threatening violence, assault occasioning bodily harm, contravening a domestic violence order; going armed in public so as to cause fear, drink driving.
The 26-year-old was sentenced to two years’ jail with immediate court-ordered parole.
ADAM RONALD HAWKE
Raceview man Adam Ronald Hawke attacked his girlfriend, fracturing her eye socket during the brutal assault where he also threatened to kill her.
In June the 35-year-old pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm DV, knife and weapon possession, and multiple drug charges.
Hawke was sentenced to a jail term of 2 and a half years.
KYM MAI LANDSDOWNE
Bundamba woman Kym Mai Landsdowne repeatedly went to her ex-boyfriends home where she beat him with a pole, damaged his car, and stole from him.
The 44-year-old woman with a history of DV pleaded guilty to assault grievous bodily harm, stealing, and wilful damage.
In August Landsdowne was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment, although was eligible for parole after 16 months.
ANDREW PAUL BOYLE
Laidley man Andrew Paul Boyle terrorised a woman for several days and physically assaulted her.
His actions were described as threatening and degrading.
Boyle is also known to show his penis publicly to women unknown to him.
Boyle pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm DV, unlawful stalking, committing an indecent act in public, drug possession, and was sentenced to a 15-month jail order.
He was released on immediate parole.
VILIAMU FAIAOGA WILSON
Goodna man Viliamu Faiaoga Wilson carried out a number a violent attacks on girlfriend which included strangulation.
In March the 29-year-old pleaded guilty to domestic violence offence charges which included assault causing bodily harm, choking, suffocation, assault, threaten violence, and attempting to steal.
Wilson was sentenced to a 2 and a half years jail and was eligible for parole a month after his sentence.
