Police have charged a 46-year-old man following a ten hour siege in a suburb west of Brisbane.
Police allege the man barricaded himself inside an Arnhem St home about 4pm Monday.
Following extensive police negotiations by specialist officers, the man surrendered without incident about 2.30am Tuesday.
“The 46-year-old was transported to hospital for assessment before being charged with threatening violence, wilful damage and two counts of serious assault police,” police said in a statement.
The man will appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning.
Ipswich police have thanked the local community for their co-operation during the 10-hour operation.
Police spent the afternoon and evening attempting to speak with the man, who was inside a home and believed to be armed.
A large exclusion zone had been declared, with anyone inside the area to remain indoors and
limit movement.
This declaration was cancelled once the man surrendered.
One local wrote on Facebook there were “cops everywhere in bulletproof vests” and ambulances were waiting nearby.
Another said they had heard a helicopter circling the area for several hours.
