An Ipswich woman with a history of domestic violence flew into a violent rage when her then-boyfriend lost her mobile phone, returning several times in a day to steal money, damage his car and bash him with a metal pole.

Bundamba woman Kym Mai Landsdowne, 44, pleaded guilty in Brisbane District Court on Friday to seven counts.

They included grievous bodily harm, stealing, two counts of common assault and three counts of wilful damage.

The court heard all offences occurred on March 10 last year at an address in Kangaroo Point.

Esk-raised Landsdowne, who went to school at Toogoolawah, and her partner had been in a relationship about seven months when Landsdowne’s violent rage occurred.

The court was told the spree, precipitated by her partner losing her mobile phone, began when Landsdowne attended his address and threw rocks and plates at it about 1.30pm.

She was arrested, charged with public nuisance and bailed.

Landsdowne then returned to the address later that day and screamed for her partner to let her in.

He did so, at which point she hit and pushed him, before damaging his TV and security screen, swiping $460 cash and decamping.

She then returned to the address a third time, armed with a metal pole, and began attacking his vehicle.

When the victim went outside to calm her, Landsdowne struck him from behind in the head with the pole, then again to his leg, causing a compound fracture to his right shin and splitting the skin.

He was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital where he required surgery and the insertion of a rod into his leg.

He subsequently development compartment syndrome and still struggles to walk.

When Landsdowne was arrested by police, she said, “That’s what you get,” the court heard.

The offending was “gratuitous, cowardly and protracted,” the court was told.

The victim remains fearful of Landsdowne and struggles to enjoy things he used to, such as fishing, due to his continuing mobility issues.

The court heard Landsdowne had a history of violence and assaults, including against previous partners, and had spent time in jail previously.

Defence counsel Kim Bryson told the court the mobile phone contained pictures of Landsdowne with her birth father – she was adopted – hence her agitation at its loss.

She said Landsdowne, a mother-of-three, had a lifelong addiction to alcohol and methamphetamine, and was drunk at the commission of the current offences.

Landsdowne had spent 141 days remanded in pre-sentence custody, after her bail was revoked following the alleged commission of further offences.

She was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment, with parole eligibility set at June 10 next year when she will have served 16 months.
