Sean Martin: Kallangur predator sentenced for grooming 11yo girl

A Moreton Bay man in his late thirties propositioned the girl for sex and let her drive his car, even falling sleep in the passenger seat.

A Moreton Bay predator called an 11-year-old girl his “girlfriend”, let her drive his car multiple times, including instances where he fell asleep in the passenger seat, and propositioned her for sex, a court has heard.

Kallangur man Sean Kimb Martin, 38, pleaded guilty in Brisbane District Court on Wednesday to three counts, grooming a child under the age of 16, and possessing and distributing child exploitation material.

The court heard the grooming occurred between August 31, 2019 and May 12 last year after Martin connected with the Moreton Bay girl via Facebook.

Martin told the girl he was 26, not 36 as he was at the time, and asked if he could be her boyfriend, which she agreed to.

They went on regular “dates” to the Settlement Cove Lagoon and Morayfield Shopping Centre, and the girl introduced Martin to her mother as her “boyfriend”.

The mother accompanied them on several of their outings, although there were about 10 occasions where only Martin and the girl were present, the court heard.

On one occasion, Martin asked her to marry him, sending her a picture of a ring and saying he would give it to her inside a chocolate Easter egg.

Another time, he sent her an unsolicited picture of a penis and asked if she wanted to have sex in a toilet block.

Martin would also frequently allow her to drive his vehicle, even falling asleep in the passenger seat on at least one occasion.

His grooming of the girl was exposed by a member of the public who contacted police after seeing a girl so young driving a vehicle.

While the girl was being interviewed by police about Martin’s nefarious activities, he sent her another picture of a penis.

He was arrested, charged and bailed, but continued to offend while on bail, the court heard.

On October 31 last year, a man on Facebook received a CEM video from Martin, who sent through about 3 minutes worth of a 12-year-old girl masturbating.

Barrister Dominic Nguyen told the court Martin was on a Disability Support Pension and had a borderline IQ.

He was supported in life by his father, who was present in court.

Judge Ian Dearden was flabbergasted by the actions of the girl’s mother.

“I struggle to understand how her parents allowed any sort of contact to continue,” he said.

Martin was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years, and placed on three years’ probation.
