Southside 7-11, Jacaranda Dental among major developments being built

From a new health care centre to industrial showrooms and housing estates, here are eight major projects set to shake up the Gympie region.

Whether its industrial estates, housing developments, or commercial ventures there has been no shortage of developments changing the face of the Gympie region in the past few years.

The transformation has not stopped either, with several new large scale developments – including the relocation of a popular business – underway in several corners of Gympie.

These are some of the largest projects under construction around the region.

Health care centre

Gympie’s range of health care services is getting a shot in the arm with a new medical centre being built near Gympie Central Shopping Centre.

Balpese Pty Ltd has started earthworks on the block at the corner of Excelsior Rd and Stanley St, less than 200m from the shopping centre.

The land was previously home to a low-set timber home; it was removed at the end of 2021.

New industrial estate

A new industrial estate is being opened up at Bas Lewis Dr, behind the historic Scottish Mine.

Twelve new blocks of industrial land are being opened up behind the heritage-listed Scottish Mine retort house near Lake Alford.

The dozen new lots, off Bas Lewis Dr and developed by ACS Australian Construction Services No. 2, will vary in size from 300m sq to 10,000m sq in size.

One of Gympie’s most popular, award-winning dentists, is moving.

The one-time home of Supercheap Auto is being transformed into the new home of Jacaranda Family Dental by the clinic’s owners Adam and Sam Bradshaw.

The couple is moving their popular clinic from the Southside Shopping Centre to the Bruce Hwy location, with an eye on opening in early 2023.

Industrial showroom

Ben Stone Construction is building a new multi-shop showroom at Monkland.

The expansion of a major Monkland industrial park continues following a four-year hiatus, with construction of a new four shop industrial building.

Ben Stone Constructions has lodged plans to build the 1135sq m building on an empty block on Edwin Campion Drive, behind Autobarn.

It is one of several projects proposed to be built within the park, where construction had stalled from 2016-2020.

Rainbow Beach service station

A large-scale refurbishment of the Rainbow Beach Manta Ray Barge ticket office is well underway more than a year after the building was shut.

The barge office has been closed to the public since the end of July 2021, and visitors looking to secure a booking to Fraser Island have had to book at least one day in advance by phone.

The newly refurbished barge office will be accompanied by a takeaway food shop and a service station, the latter sandwiched between the office and the restaurant.

The once-popular Southside Shop has become a memory with work now well advanced on a new 7-Eleven service station being built on the Exhibition Rd block.

Developer Cylinder Cove is transforming the small timber shop into a new a multi-pump service station with a 212sq m shop.

Once open it will run 24 hours a day.

Developer Brah 101 is opening up a 10 block subdivision not far from the Greendale Estate sprawling on the other side of the road.

The blocks will range from 4002m sq to 5275m sq.

Brah 101’s subdivision was approved by the council in August 2021 under delegation.
