Meth, cars, guns, cash seized in major police raid

Three people have been charged by police following a drug bust in the Gympie region in which more than $1.4 million in meth was allegedly seized.

Police said in a statement on Wednesday that 30 charges have been laid against the trio after officers conducted a search warrant at a Blacksnake property on Sunday, June 9.

The search allegedly turned up three rifles, various quantities of ammunition, about 1.8kg of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of between $900,00 and $1.44 million, 510g of marijuana, various “suspect” acids and $122,350 in cash.

Three stolen cars including a two Toyota LandCruisers and a Jayco caravan were allegedly found at the property, too.

One of the LandCruisers was allegedly stolen from a Maroochy River property at Yandina Coolum Rd on June 7.

The second was allegedly stolen from a Peregian Springs property at Pepperberry Circuit on May 19, while the Jayco caravan was allegedly taken from a Gympie business at Pinewood Ave between June 6 and 7.

Police say they found one of the offenders through “intelligence and investigations”.

The search of the property, about 40km west of Gympie, and subsequent arrests happened “without incident”.

A 56-year-old Blacksnake man has been charged with more than 20 offences.

These include four counts of possessing dangerous drugs, two counts of unlawful possession of motor vehicles with intent to deprive, three counts of possessing anything used in the commission of crime defined, two counts of unlawful possession of weapons category A, B OR M, and one count each of possessing dangerous Schedule 1 drugs, trafficking in dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous Schedule 2 drugs, receiving or possessing property obtained from trafficking or supplying, producing dangerous drugs, possessing shortened firearms, possessing explosives (ammunition), possession of property suspected of being the proceeds of an offence under Drugs Misuse Act, failing to properly dispose of needle and syringe, possessing tainted property, buying or possess S4 or S8 medicines or hazardous poisons, and entering premises and committing indictable offence by break.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at the Gympie Magistrates Court on August 19.

A 45-year-old Nambour man has been charged with one count each of possessing dangerous drugs, and buying or possessing S4 or S8 medicines or hazardous poisons.

He has been provided a drug diversion.

A 61-year-old Yandina woman has been charged with one count each of possessing dangerous drugs, failing to take reasonable care and precautions in respect of a syringe or needle, failing to properly dispose of a needle and syringe, possessing property suspected of having been acquired for the purpose of committing a drug offence, and buying or possessing S4 or S8 medicines or hazardous poisons.

She was provided a drug diversion, police said.

Wide Bay Burnett District Detective Inspector Paul Dalton said community safety was the top priority.

“This is a significant disruption to the distribution of drugs in our community,” Detective Inspector Dalton said.

“Each firearm and quantity of drugs seized stops the chances of those weapons and drugs causing harm on the streets.”
