Police have stripped the licence plates of a Southside motorcyclist’s bike and confiscated it for 90 days after the 27-year-old was caught doing 58km/h above the speed limit on the Bruce Hwy.
A statement released by police Wednesday said officers pulled him over after witnessing him driving 118km/h in a 60km/h zone along the Bruce Highway in Gympie on April 2.
The 27-year-old man must also pay a $1780 fine.

“Speeding is a major contributor to road fatalities,” said Senior Constable Debbie Page in the release.
“This is particularly prevalent for motorcycle riders, who are harder for other motorists to see, especially if they are weaving in and out of traffic and lanes.”
She adds that “whether it is in town or the rural country roads, we must observe and adhere to the speed limit.”
The state has been left reeling from multiple fatal crashes involving motorcycles in 2024.
These included the deaths of a 60-year-old man at Burrum River on the Fraser Coast in early February, and a 37-year-old father in a horror crash at Bundaberg less than two weeks later.
