Kilkivan Great Horse Ride makes a comeback
With the help of a dedicated and committed horsing community, Kilkivan Great Horse Ride 2023 turned out to be a great success despite initial cancellation.

Kilkivan celebrated its Great Horse Ride this weekend drawing hundreds of people into the township to explore the region by horse, watch the parade, and take part in a number of sporting events.
President of the organising committee Tim Archer said he was astounded by the turnout and how, at the very last minute, everything worked out, came together and they managed to get the show off the ground.
The committee, which had dwindled down to himself and one other person late last year, decided to cancel the event in February 2023.
But the horsing community decided otherwise, rallying behind them to form a whole new committee, who found the willpower to make it happen.
“I just volunteered in the last year, and then it was going to fold,” said Mr Archer.
“I just couldn’t let it fold, so I took it over and it all went pretty well.”
Depending on the challenge and stamina, riders could choose a number of trails between 12km and 24km long for the ride on Saturday.
Mr Archer said 135 horses were on the 12km trail, 120 horses on the 24km trail and 50 riders on the Widgee trail.
The Sunday was all about the horsing events for all ages, including ranch sorting, the stockman’s challenge, and novelty events.
