A lucky Gympie man has won more than $50k from a Keno Classic ticket he bought two weeks ago.
The man was “going about his life as usual” and “completely unaware” of his jackpot win until an official from Keno contacted him to share the good news.
The man expressed his gratitude for the winnings right in time for Christmas, and that he could not be more thankful for not losing the ticket.
“It’s pretty unbelievable! I had no idea I’d been walking around with this ticket worth more than $50,000 for almost two weeks,” he said.
“If I play a game of Keno, I usually just check it when I’m in next, so that’s why I had no clue. Luckily, I didn’t lose the ticket!
“I was pretty excited. I didn’t even know what to say.
“I usually change up my numbers whenever I play but I think I might start sticking with these.
“It’s going to be a good Christmas bonus! I can also put it toward the mortgage. Thank you very much.”
The winning ticket was purchased at the Phoenix Hotel and won the man $50,837.10.
In the 2023-24 financial year, Keno players along the eastern seaboard have won more than $1.16 billion, including 18 people who won more than $1 million.
Queenslanders won more than $441 million in that time.
