Friends of a Gold Coast businessman who is fighting for life after a horror rollover during a race at Queensland Raceway on Friday night say they “need him to pull through”.
Shane Savage, owner of Varsity Lakes business Need a Tow Let Me Know, was the driver of the silver two-door Holden Torana that flew off the track during Powercruise, a cruising car show.
Mr Savage was flown in a critical condition to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with serious head, chest and pelvic injuries. His passenger, a 35-year-old man, was also taken to hospital with chest, shoulder and pelvic injuries.
Mr Savage remained in ICU on Sunday afternoon, while the other man was in a stable condition.
A friend of Mr Savage told The Courier-Mail a lot of people who he loved were waiting to see him pull through.
“He’s one of the kindest people that anyone will come across he's a family man and he will do anything for his family,” they said.
“If anything it should be highlighted he spends all his time with his kids. He’s a passionate person and he’s a relaxing human being.
“We all just need him to pull through.
“We are all pretty devastated. Personally I want people to know and be collectively praying.”
Other friends have taken to social media to express their concern about their mate.
“Keep fighting hard champion,” one friend said.
“Shane Savage I pray that you get through this,” another friend said.
“Wishing you and pray you get through this Shane
“I hope he pulls though I will be thinking of his family at this time how sad.”
The Powerturo Powercruise allows participants to cruise the raceway on track “with your car and your mates doing all the things you’re not allowed to do anywhere else”.
The Forensic Crash Unit is assisting Workplace Health and Safety with investigations.
