A man is fighting for life and another is seriously injured after a horror rollover during a race at Queensland Raceway on Friday night that saw both men ejected from the vehicle.
Shocking footage has emerged showing the race car swerving before it flies off the track and rolls multiple times.
Other video shows the car on its side with smoke billowing out of it.
The incident happened about 5.30pm, with police confirming the driver of the car was taken to hospital in a critical condition, while the passenger sustained serious injuries.
It is believed the men were racing a silver two-door Holden Torana during Powercruise, a cruising car show supported by Supercheap Auto.
The Powerturo Powercruise allows participants to cruise the raceway on track “with your car and your mates doing all the things you’re not allowed to do anywhere else”.
Racing fans who witnessed the crash posted about their shock online.
“Not how powercruise is meant to start. Thinking of everyone involved. Such horrible stuff to see,” wrote Indi VP.
“Our thoughts are with the 2 (sic) occupants of the car at powercruise this arvo that rolled,” posted Jacob Scull.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said paramedics treated one man aged 45 to 50 who suffered serious head, chest and pelvic injuries who was flown in a critical condition to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
The second man, 35, sustained chest, shoulder and pelvic injuries and was driven to Princess Alexandra Hospital.
The organisers of the cruising event, Powercruise Promotions, said the four-day event will continue as planned across the weekend.
“Powercruise acknowledges that a single vehicle incident occurred at Queensland Raceway during one of today’s cruising sessions.”
“We’d like to commend the track medical and fire response for being on scene immediately; as well as QAS for their assistance by road and helicopter.”
“Emergency services then transported the 2 occupants by road to hospital where they continue to be attended to and are in the best hands possible for their recovery.”
“Powercruise #93 will continue as planned tomorrow at Queensland Raceway.”
The Forensic Crash Unit is assisting Workplace Health and Safety with investigations.
Concerned witnesses took to social media to discuss the frightening incident.
“Farout (sic), the powercruise crash looks bad. I hope the people involved are going to be okay,” shared Adrienn Tessenyi.
Others said they would not be attending Saturday’s Powercruise event out of respect.
“If the event goes ahead tomorrow it will be the most disrespectful display in motorsports history,” Shannon Bourke wrote.
