A Gladstone man who allegedly threatened to murder a woman before damaging her vehicle and house and later deliberately crashing the vehicle will remain in police custody while a brief of evidence is compiled.

Harley Joseph Anderson, 30, had his matter heard in Gladstone Magistrates Court this week where no bail application was made.

Anderson is facing a number of charges after visiting multiple addresses in Tannum Sands and Boyne Island about 3am Sunday before allegedly damaging at least three vehicles, a front door and then unlawfully using a vehicle before allegedly deliberately crashing it along Gladstone Benaraby Rd.

Acting Magistrate Patrick Murphy heard that in the days leading to the alleged offending, Anderson contacted the complainant and allegedly threatened violence and to murder the complainant, which included a Snapchat image with the defendant holding a bullet and other social media messages threatening to kill her.

Police prosecutor Carl Spargo told the court the extent of the alleged wilful damage included smashing windows, damaging tyres and, while wielding a machete, kicking in the front door of a property.

The court heard Anderson was taken into police custody after being found inside a red Mazda CX5 that had crashed while travelling northbound along Gladstone Benaraby Rd near Wurdong Heights.

Anderson was later taken to Gladstone Hospital due to mental health concerns, where police allege he failed to comply with police directions and swore inside the hospital.

Anderson has been charged with one count of written threats to murder, one count of threatening violence (by words or conduct), five counts of wilful damage, one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, one count of obstruct police officer, one count of public nuisance, and one count of assault a police officer.

Defence lawyer Jun Papito said his client would not apply for bail and asked for the acting Magistrate to adjourn the matter for two months in order for the prosecution to prepare and supply a brief of evidence.

Anderson’s matter will next be heard in the Gladstone Magistrates Court in late November where his appearance will not be required.
