A Central Queensland wife has faced court after she struck her husband amid claims he was being unfaithful.
The 50-year-old woman, who by law cannot be named, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on July 3 to contravening a domestic violence order (aggravated offence).
Police prosecutor Sergeant Merrilyn Hoskins said about 8.40pm on June 5, police were called to an incident involving the woman and her husband at their residence in the Gladstone region.
“The (husband) had been at work during the day – he took a phone call from (his wife),” Sgt Hoskins said.
“He was out of the office having a cigarette with a female co-worker.
“The (wife) has heard the voice, a female voice, in the background.
“Due to the (wife’s) insecurity, she started an argument with (her husband).”
Sgt Hoskins said the man received up to 30 calls from his wife so he turned his phone to silent and didn’t answer them.
The prosecutor said the wife then walked to a shop and bought several bottles of bourbon and coke.
Sgt Hoskins said when the husband came home from work at 5pm, his wife started a verbal argument, accused him of being unfaithful and wanted him to “pack his things and leave.”
The court heard that while the couple was in the kitchen, the wife slapped her husband with an open hand to the back.
The wife attempted a second slap but the husband grabbed her wrists and pushed her away, the court was told.
The wife called Triple 0 and that’s how police became involved.
The court heard the wife had one prior domestic violence offence on her criminal history.
Solicitor Rio Ramos said his stay-at-home mum client, suffered from medical conditions and she tendered documents to support that.
The court heard also heard she was apologetic for this incident which had occurred after she mixed alcohol with her medication.
Ms Ramos said the wife had been set off by “jealously” and she had taken steps to address her alcohol issues.
Acting Magistrate Stephen Byrne fined the woman $500 and no conviction was recorded.
