A Central Queensland tradesman who racked up 27 stealing offences has battled a meth addiction since he was a teenager, a court has heard.

Daniel George Pershouse, 39, appeared in custody in Gladstone Magistrates Court on January 10 where he pleaded guilty to charges including four counts of possessing dangerous drugs and three counts of stealing.

The court heard the drug charges involved Pershouse being caught with methamphetamine and cannabis.

It was told that Pershouse stole a $102 bottle of alcohol from Dan Murphy’s, items from Woolworths, and also a camera from Bunnings.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Merrilyn Hoskins said Pershouse had 35 property offences on his criminal history including 24 stealing offences.

Solicitor Rio Ramos said Pershouse had used meth since he was a teenager and that was the reason for his offending.

Ms Ramos said Pershouse was a qualified welder who had previously worked as a sandblaster and timber cutter, and once released from custody he planned to relocate to Biloela.

Before handing down penalty, Magistrate Mary Buchanan said Pershouse’s meth addiction had meant his life in recent years was a “revolving door” in and out of prison.

Ms Buchanan sentenced Pershouse to four months’ jail, declared 41 days’ pre-sentence custody as time already served, and fixed immediate parole eligibility.

Convictions were recorded.
