A young Central Queensland woman has paid a hefty price for dabbling in meth.

Maddison May Busk, 20, pleaded guilty in Yeppoon Magistrates Court on January 11 to possessing dangerous drugs and a weapon.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Sarah Rowe said on July 3 last year, Busk was in police custody at the Yeppoon station for another reason when she was searched.

In her purse, police found three clip-seal bags containing meth - the total weight of the drugs was 2.22g.

Then on November 5, police conducted a search warrant at a Mt Chalmers residence, where they found Busk with a flick-knife in her handbag.

The court heard that Busk had no criminal history.

It was however, Busk’s second appearance before the Yeppoon court recently after pleading guilty on December 7 to drug-driving, having consumed methamphetamine.

Solicitor Myles Heath said Busk was currently on Jobseeker Allowance and looking for work after leaving her previous employment as a result of these charges.

Mr Heath said the amount of meth Busk was caught with was “a concerning amount of meth” but he referenced the fact she had no criminal history when asking Acting Magistrate Stephen Byrne to consider not recording a conviction, as one could affect Busk’s future employment prospects.

Mr Byrne placed Busk on eight months’ probation and no conviction was recorded.
