Fears are held for a pedestrian left fighting for life after being struck by a vehicle in Hervey Bay.

Fears are held for a pedestrian left fighting for life after being struck by a vehicle at Craignish on Tuesday.

A spokeswoman from the Queensland Police Service said the incident happened about 6.30pm on the Pialba-Burrum Heads Rd.

The road is closed between Toogoom Rd and Carkeet Rd.

Police and paramedics are at the scene.

She said the patient had been left in a critical condition as a result of the incident.

The spokeswoman said she did not have the age or gender of the person hit by the car at this time.

Diversions are in place, but motorists are urged to avoid the area or expect delays.
