Exciting artist’s impressions have emerged for the new development proposed for the Moore Park Surf Life Saving Club.

A development application was lodged with Bundaberg Regional Council on behalf of Moore Park SLSC by GHD Pty Ltd for a new clubhouse, featuring artist’s impressions of a modern complex.

An open terrace is set to welcome visitors and members to the club, which will cover the entire front entrance of the single-storey 862sq m facility.

The interior would comprise of two training rooms with an operable dividing wall, storage rooms for training and gear, canteen, first aid room, kitchenette and locker room and male and female bathrooms.

The existing shed at the site will store nippers training gear.

According to the application, Surf Life Saving Queensland secured $800,000 in funding from the Queensland Government for the development, along with $400,000 from the Commonwealth to help establish the new facility.

The development coincides with a new community “master plan” created by Bundaberg council to enhance Moore Park Beach.

Council announced the plan on April 27, 2020, which included a community hub at the south-eastern end of Moore Park Beach.

The development application for the surf club states that the club took the master plan into consideration, and the new club building allowed for that.

A site plan also shows the adjacent park will house a public amenities block to be owned by the council.

“As part of the development the club will build public toilets,” a council agenda item referring to the development states.

“Council will be responsible for the maintenance, stocking, cleaning and electricity charges.

“The club wish for the toilet block to remain within their lease area and an additional clause will be inserted into the lease to cover council’s responsibilities.”

More car parks and a new path is also proposed for the site, but will fall under the wider Moore Park Beach Masterplan.

Moore Park SLSC has a rich history; the club was founded in 1954 as a memorial to men and women of the district who had served their country at war.

According to their website, the club’s first “clubhouse” comprised of a tent with a “rusty” shark tower and wind-up shark alarm.

Today, club volunteers provide emergency search and rescue, first aid and deliver surf safety and provide preventive programs to ensure beach visitors avoid danger.
