Queensland’s border will reopen on Monday, and tens of thousands of people are expected to permanently relocate from New South Wales and Victoria - many will be looking to invest and settle down, and maybe even buy themselves a job.
From pubs to general stores and horse breeding facilities, here are some of the best businesses up for sale from Bundaberg to the Fraser Coast and Gympie.
Bundaberg
The Grand Hotel (Under Offer)
One of Bundaberg’s most iconic pubs, The Grand Hotel is on the market and under offer, listed for expressions of interest.
The listing for the pub says the venue underwent a $1 million renovation of the main bar, restaurant, function facilities and large beer garden with direct laneway access.
A full commercial licence is also available.
As well as the pub, the venue has 27-room accommodation suitable for 90-bed backpackers with communal amenities.
The Grand Hotel closed “until further notice” in March.
Golden Palms Motor Inn
The freehold sale of a Bundaberg motel is offering potential buyers the opportunity to have their home/business or investment rolled all into one.
The Golden Palms Motor Inn is on the market for just over $2.3 million.
The four-star motel has 16 rooms comprising of queen, twin/triple and family rooms.
There is also a large two-bed residence on site with an open plan commercial kitchen and lounge.
The site has also had refurbishments leaving next to no improvements needed.
Fish n Chips @251
If a pub or hotel isn’t your cup of tea, then maybe you could have the dream of owning your own fish and chip shop.
Fish ‘n’ Chips @251 is a well established business on Bourbong St and is on the market for $120,000.
The current owners of the business serve fresh fish and homemade chips, as well as homemade specialty seafood products.
The listing says the business would “suit someone with cooking and customer service skills” and would be “ideal for a family business, husband and wife, or for someone wanting to purchase a business for visa purposes”.
Liberty Service Station Bargara
A beachside service station, hardware store and mechanical workshop at Bargara could be the perfect opportunity for someone looking to invest.
The Liberty Service Station on Bauer St has hit the market for $1 million.
The property is currently rented by two tenants.
The service station has four tanks, two for unleaded petrol and two for diesel.
There are also four fuel bowsers.
The property had a new roof fitted in 2020.
Gympie
The Australian Hotel
One of the most iconic pubs in Gympie has presented the rare opportunity to own a piece of local history.
The Australian Hotel on Lady Mary Terrace is on the market and could be yours for just under $1.7 million.
The freehold sale overlooks Gympie and its surrounding hills.
The pub has a fully-functioning bar with a cool room, drive through bottle shop, beer garden, bistro, TAB, Keno and pokie machines.
The building itself is a 133-year-old Federation style structure with accommodation on its upper level.

Gunabul Homestead
A historic homestead, with cabins and a golf course, is on the market on Gympie’s fast-growing Southside.
The Snelling family are selling Gunabul Homestead and sources say it could fetch between $2.5m and $3.5m.
The homestead was built in 1887, and was a private residence for the Power family before being transformed into a restaurant and events space.
The property occupies a 15ha site, with frontage to the picturesque Mary River.
The Snelling family purchased the property 38 years ago, and built what is now the Gunabul par 3, 18-hole golf course. They also built three cabins, which are regularly booked out.
The property is being sold on a walk-in, walk-out basis, including all plant and equipment for the course, along with a turnkey restaurant and events business.
Amamoor General Store
Another piece of the Gympie region’s history is on the market with the Amamoor General Store up for grabs.
Listed for $1.25 million, the store was established in the 1920s and serves as the official licensed Post Office, Newsagency, Petrol Station, Take Away shop, Gift shop and Tourist Information Centre for Amamoor.
