Online adult shopping hotspot Lovehoney has unveiled its 2025 Sex Map revealing where in Qld saucy shopping items are most in demand.

Airlie Beach came out on top as the sexiest postcode in Queensland and the second sexiest in Australia.

Lovehoney’s sales data from 2024 placed the Whitsunday suburb in the top five purchasers per capita in four separate categories.

Airlie Beach was not afraid to get kinky, and was the second highest purchaser of bondage products, third highest purchaser of anal lubricant and dildos (average length of 6.7 inches), and fifth highest buyer of strap-ons.

Buyers in the North Queensland tourist hotspot however were not as keen for role-play and anal toys, placing 112th and 129th respectively.

Queensland was also recognised for its spicy shopping habits, ranked as the second sexiest state or territory in Australia, just behind Tasmania.
Mining and tourism hubs topped the list in general with Mount Isa, Sandstone Point, Gladstone, and Mackay also featured in Queensland’s top five rankings.

Mount Isa was honoured with the title of Most Realistic City Award for purchasing the highest number of “realistic vaginas” per capita in Australia.
Other locations in Queensland also took out top awards with Toowoomba named the Most Locked-Up City, purchasing the most chastity devices, and the Best Dressed Award going to Gympie, for buying the most costumes in Australia.

Bargara was the least sexy location in Queensland and one of the 10 least sexy postcodes in Australia.

But what were the most popular items across the state?
Water based lubricant took the top spot with Australians buying more than 8,911,037 grams.

Strawberry was the top flavour in Airlie Beach and all except two states, including Queensland where lovers more broadly preferred a variety pack.

Despite its small size, with a population of just 7,500 people, South Australia’s Port Pirie was crowned Australia’s Sexiest City, buying more sex toys and accessories per capita than any other Aussie postcode.

Tasmania took out the big win as the country’s sexiest state, buying the most anal sex toys, bondage products, gags, monster dildos, and extra-large condoms per capita than any other Australian state or territory.

The Northern Territory ranked last on the list but despite it being the least sexy state they clearly preferred things, well, bigger, with the average dildo length at a generous 6.9 inches.

‘A LOT GOING ON THERE’: TALKING TOYS WITH YOUR PARTNER

Terri O’Reilly, a sex therapist with more than 20 years of experience said there was a huge variation in the way some individuals fit together sexually, and sex toys could often help couples close that gap.

“For example, if one partner requires a longer intercourse experience and the other finishes sooner, a toy can be a great conduit in closing that difference, so both, at the end have a great sexual experience,” she said, adding toys could also be useful for people experiencing issues reaching orgasm.

“We suspect that approximately one third of women require clitoral stimulation to reach orgasm, a third require internal penetration and a third require both clitoral and internal,” she said.

“There’s a lot going on there.

“It’s sometimes hard to a partner to be giving enough in all of those areas at once for her to orgasm.

“A toy used in conjunction with her partner’s offering can make all the difference to her getting to orgasm or not.”

So how do you introduce toys into a relationship? It's all about opening up lines of discussion Ms O’Reilly said, adding the average couple usually didn’t have enough discussions about sex in general.

“It seems to be a subject so many are self-conscious talking about.

“We should be discussing our sexual preferences within every sexual domain (ie is your preference for fast, or slow and sensual sex; where do you most like to be touched etc), and sex toys are its own domain and should be entered into the conversation.

“These conversations should be had without judgement, allowing for unique preferences that each of us humans are entitled to.”
