While recent wild weather has impacted Toowoomba’s favourite Christmas event, spirits have remained high as attendance numbers soar.
Event organisers were hopeful of reaching more than 60,000 visitors across the 18-day festive event, with a number of rainy nights putting a dent in this year’s numbers.
Project chairman Marshall Cox said while the event saw some challenging nights, numbers reached their highest on Friday evening.
“The last two nights have been fantastic, on Friday night we saw 1500 people come through which is the highest attendance we’ve had on a single night in years,” he said.
Mr Cox said the new displays had worked a treat with some visitors travelling more than 300 km for a peak at the festive delights.
“There’s something for everyone there that makes their evening worthwhile,” he said.
Mr Cox said Christmas spirit had been out in force this year, with a number of visitors coming dressed in their best festive attire.
“We’ve had a number of visitors from Brisbane and the Gold Coast, and I spoke to a couple from Moree who came up just for the event,” he said.
Toowoomba’s Christmas Wonderland runs until December 24, 7pm-10pm nightly.
