If you’re on the lookout for Toowoomba’s best Christmas lights display then be sure to check out Des and Merryl Pearce’s property on Grey Gums Drive, Blue Mountain Heights.
The property features a sprawling display of dazzling lights and inflatables, including a Holden ute at the front of the property.
Ms Pearce said that for this year’s display she went with an Aussie theme.
The couple have been putting up the lights for the past five years, and Ms Pearce said that she loved the tradition and seeing the community’s reaction.
“It generates the positive side of Christmas and the kids love it,” she said.
“I’ve got grandchildren and they love it.”
While it takes quite the effort to put up each year, Ms Pearce said seeing the community’s positive response meant it was well worth the time and effort.
And she said she plans on continuing the tradition for many more years to come.
“I really enjoy it and plan to keep doing it for as long as possible,” Ms Pearce said.
Also going all out to make her home sparkle with Christmas cheer is Trish Botten’s in Newtown.
The house features a dazzling display of lights to get you into the festive spirit – even a giant inflatable teddy bear.
Ms Botten said that after having recently moved houses she wasn’t going to do a display this year, but that changed after a visit to Bunnings.
“So we went to Bunnings and we saw this beautiful big teddy bear,” she said.
“I just had to have it and so I made my husband find the Christmas lights in all the boxes and put up some Christmas lights.”
Ms Botten said her display had even inspired others in her street to get involved and put lights up of their own.
“One of the guys across the road said ‘oh yeah, we do Christmas lights’ and only some come out,” she said.
“When he saw our display, he took a day off and went out and bought all these Christmas lights.
“So it’s been really good.”
