Toowoomba’s favourite Christmas Wonderland has returned, with tens of thousands of people expected to visit Queens Park Botanical Gardens throughout the next few weeks.
60,000-65,000 people are expected to descend on the Botanic Gardens over 18 nights to see the park transformed into a Christmas wonderland spectacular.
The event features something for everyone: from hundreds of light displays to entertainment for the whole family, including live performances – even free ice cream and popcorn for children.
Christmas Wonderland project chairman Marshall Cox said visitors would get to see new displays and technology for the first time.
“This year we have invested in some new laser technology with holographic projections,” he said.
“We’ve invested a fair bit of money in some high-powered colour changing floodlights that will highlight trees and other aspects of park.
“We’ve also got a new aquatic themed display which we’re making to look like a goldfish bowl.”
A gold coin is required for entry with the proceeds raised going to the Toowoomba Hospice, Lifeline Darling Downs and South West Queensland, and the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation.
Mr Cox said that after this year’s wonderland $1.5 million will have been returned back to the community through those organisations.
Toowoomba’s Christmas wonderland begins Saturday night and runs until December 24, 7pm-10pm nightly.
