Foodie enthusiasts will have plenty to celebrate in the coming months as the completion of a popular eatery nears closer.
A drive-through Guzman Y Gomez restaurant will soon open its doors on the corner of Bridge Street and Richmond Drive in Wilsonton.
Plans for the 260 sqm site with a combined 31 sqm outdoor seating area, were submitted by Toowoomba firm FKG Group to the Toowoomba Regional Council in February 2022.
A Guzman Y Gomez spokeswoman said the team was confident the Wilsonton store would open its doors “early this year”.
“We’re excited to show local community that it’s possible to serve good food, fast, without compromising on quality or nutrition,” the spokeswoman said.
“There’s nothing team GYG love doing more than opening new restaurants and we are always on the lookout for new locations.”
The Wilsonton location will mark the third for franchise owner Dante Reynaud after he opened his first GYG restaurant in Gladstone in 2019, followed by a Toowoomba store in 2021.
“GYG has given me so much and I can’t wait to give back to the local community,” he said.
“It’s crazy to think that now I’m opening up my third GYG.”
It will mark the franchise’s third outlet in Toowoomba and is expected to create 70 job opportunities.
The $55m precinct near Wilsonton Shopping Centre has quickly become a fast food destination with the Mexican eatery joining the existing McDonald’s, KFC, Hungry Jack’s, Red Rooster and Super Rooster stores.
