The long-awaited redevelopment of the famous Rowes precinct in the Toowoomba CBD is just months from completion, with the $11 million project promising to honour the city’s heritage.

Northbuild Construction is expected to have the project finished by April next year, with the transformation to create several new modern office spaces, a small coffee shop and open up Victoria St to the public.

It has been more than two years since the Rowe Group, a family synonymous with Toowoomba business, announced the project.

General manager Paul McMahon said while the offices will suit modern needs, the design retained as much of the old brickwork and even included materials from other famous Toowoomba buildings.

“Northbuild has been great and the whole relationship has been built on a lot of trust,” he said.

“We’re trying to recycle as much as we can — everything that I think is of some use, the builders have applied it.

“That’s part of the trust that we’ve got with Northbuild.

“We have 10km of floorboards that were all recovered from the Toowoomba Foundry and then reused here.”

Mr McMahon paid tribute to the Rowe family for supporting the revitalisation of a previously underused section of the Toowoomba CBD.

“The Rowe family has spared no expense, it’s incredible to be working with the family that is so interested in doing things right,” he said.

“It’s about reinvigorating the CBD.

“It’s easy to talk about it, but at some stage someone has got to invest and the Rowe family has done that.

“They’re investing into an incredibly long-term view of Toowoomba.”

The office tenancies will include shared breakout spaces and even a “Google room”, which will be used for teleconferencing and other technology-based work.
