Work continues on Toowoomba CBD property transformation

THE transformation of one of the CBD’s most recognisable properties continues, with work progressing on the Rowes redevelopment.

THE transformation of one of the Toowoomba CBD's most recognisable properties continues, with work progressing on the second stage of the Rowes redevelopment off Russell St.

The western section of the furniture store, which fronts onto Victoria St and features the old flour mill, is currently being turned into an open space with coffee shops and places for workers to sit.

Rowe Group general manager Paul McMahon said he was excited to see the realisation of the project, following the upgrade of the store's facade in recent months.

"That's going to be a semipublic space, and hopefully it will be very pleasant with lots of greenery, and people can come to retire from the city during lunch," he said.

"It will be something that will be quite beautiful and different for Toowoomba.

"The Rowe family has been around Toowoomba for five generations, so we want to continue that contribute to it."

The work is being completed by local contractor Northbuild Construction, while the designs were done by Toowoomba's Aspect Architects, both of which also finished the facade redesign.

Mr McMahon said it was important the whole building kept its retro stylings and design, with a few small improvements.

"Our architectural advisers made us aware that the facade is an important part in the history of the building," he said.

"We wanted to keep that, but we want to also add something that would allowed lots of light to pass through into the first floor (offices)."

The second stage is expected to be finished by the end of the year.
