Toowoomba cyclists travelling from the western suburbs to the CBD have to cross the city’s busiest main road, but a new development project will make for a much safer commute.

The City Cycle Path active transport project is set to start construction in June and will connect riding infrastructure between Glenvale and Toowoomba.

New active transport facilities will be added on the route between Anzac Ave and Glenvale Rd.

The project is the second “active transport street” after the state’s first was introduced on Pierce St in South Toowoomba in June 2024.

There will be a shared path added to Karrool St between Glenvale Rd and Goode St, and upgrades to the Toowoomba Connection Rd and Karrool St intersection for pedestrians.

A ‘safe active street’ on Goode St between Karroool St and Anzac Ave will have a new speed limit of 30km/h, improved streetscaping, and road surface markings turning into a shared cycling and driving zone.

There will also be a new raised pedestrian crossing on Goode St.

The Cycle Path will improve safety for walkers and cyclists, reduce peak hour congestion, and offer better active transport.

The cycle path is funded by the Queensland Government Active Transport Investment Program.

The project is predicted to be done by the end of the year.
