Brad Fitzgibbons has been planning his improved Brewoomba street party for three years, so imagine his reaction when he woke up on Saturday to rainy conditions.
“When we arrived at 6am to shut the road and get ready, my heart was broken,” the Fitzy’s Toowoomba publican said.
“We hadn’t run an event since 2019 due to Covid-19.
“It looked like three years of planning had gone down the drain — it was heart-in-your-mouth stuff.”
Luckily, clear skies prevailed in the end, as more than 500 punters packed into the closed-off Church Street to enjoy 16 different craft breweries and a variety of food vendors.
Mr Fitzgibbons said he was thrilled to pull on his new vision for the event, which was kept separate from the pub in a change from previous editions.
“The weather gods shined down on us about then. People dressed for the occasion, it’s winter in Toowoomba so it’s cold, but it’s easy to rug up,” he said.
“The band played on until 9.30pm and punters were still there until the close, so we’re very happy.
“It showed some appetite for not only craft beer, but also getting out and about in Toowoomba again.”
